Number of Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza War rises to 262




JERUSALEM — The number of Israel Defence Forces soldiers killed since the horrific Hamas-led October 7 2023 attacks rose to 262 on Monday.

Seven soldiers have died during April. The latest casualties came on Monday with the deaths of Staff-Sergeant-Major Ido Aviv, aged 28 of Carmiel, and Staff-Sergeant-Major Kalkidan Meharim, 37, of Petach Tikva in the central Gaza Strip.

Avid (left) was from the Yiftah Division, while Meharim (right) belonged to the Carmeli Division.

They were the first deaths in three weeks.

The previous deaths came on 6 April 2024, when 4 soldiers from the Commando Brigade were killed in action in southern Gaza.

They were

  • Ido Baruch, 21, of Tel Mond.
  • Amitai Even Shoshan, 20, of Azriel.
  • Reef Harush, 20 of Kibbutz Ramat David.
  • Ilai Zair, 20, of Kedar.

The first casualty of the month came on Monday 1 April 2024 when Staff Sergeant Nadav Cohen, 20, of Haifa, died in battle in the southern Gaza Strip. Cohen was a member of the 77th Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade.
