Fatal encounter: 13 perish in head-on collision near Kanaipur Union
DHAKA, Bangladesh — On Tuesday morning, a bus and a pickup vehicle collided head-on on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kanaipur Union, Faridpur Sadar upazila. At least 13 persons were killed. According to villagers and police sources, a Magura-bound Unique Paribahan bus collided with a Dhaka-bound pickup, killing 11 people on the scene, including a woman. Two people died after being transferred to the hospital, according to United News of Bangladesh (UNB). In addition, three people were hospitalized in critical condition. Md Salauddin Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station, stated that the deceased’s identity could not be known immediately. Police believe a family rented the pickup and was returning to Dhaka after the Eid celebrations. Eyewitnesses informed the press that both vehicles were overspeeding.
