Cisco to join with Mercedes-Benz to develop mobile office for cars

SAN JOSE, California: Cisco said it is working with Mercedes Benz to add its Webex conferencing tools to the dashboard of Mercedes’ 2024 E Class vehicles, turning them into mobile offices.

Under the project, 2024 Mercedes-Benz E Class vehicles will be equipped with Wi-Fi and cellular data connection, so drivers can download the Webex application to appear directly on the touchscreen of the infotainment system without the need of a cell phone.

Although drivers can only use use all features when their vehicles are parked, including video meetings, automatic transcription, content-sharing, and reactions, they can also use audio when the auto is moving.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted video-conferencing platforms, such as Webex, Zoom and Microsoft’s Teams, as people began working from home, their growth has slowed since restrictions have eased.

In a similar move, Zoom and Tesla are cooperating to equip vehicles with conferencing tools.
